the obama administration exactly what happened that night in benghazi and why the f.b.i. still can't get in to investigate the september 11th attacks more than two weeks later. this as we're learning more details how relaxed security appear to have been there. good morning. >> jamie: i'm jamie colby. it's always great to have you here. that deadly terror attack killed four americans, u.s. ambassador chris stevens, two former navy seals and information management officer. peter doocy is live with more on the ongoing investigation. what is the latest. >> reporter: the latest is f.b.i. agents are still within not the city limits of benghazi. so the investigation into the attack has not fully started yet even though it's been 19 days since the attacks. republican senator bob corker who sits on the foreign relations committee is curious that thought it was safe enough for u.s. ambassador to have such lighted security three weeks ago but not safe enough for our best and brightest investigators to work under heavy guard. he wrote a letter to james clapper what has changed in libya that even f.b
the start. >> what about the fact that the fbi was being sent to the site, even though the area has been compromised? >> the f.b.i. does a great job. the crime scene has been totally compromised. it's been 2 1/2 weeks and the fbi hasn't been able to get there. this whole idea of relying on the fbi goes back to a pre-9/11 mentality when we're treating them as crimes rather than acts of terrorism. the fbi can do all it can do, but we don't need the fbi to tell us whether this was a terrorist attack. the fbi could be helpful in tracking some of those involved, but to rely on the fbi this way, again, is going back to a pre-9/11 mind-set. we saw what that did on 9/11. >> sure did. so are you saying that the president and his team simply don't want the public to know the truth, that on 9/11, our security was tight enough, there may be al-qaeda linked to the attack, and we didn't scandal that's continuing to grow. the problem now spreads statewide. senior correspondent eric shawn is here with the latest on the investigation. eric? >> now there's suspected problems with registration forms in 10
hoffa. one of the persistent questions. why is this shed and driveway? >> the f.b.i. has this case. of course, they have been searching for years for jimmy hoffa's body. it came up where somebody complained they saw or know of a body that was buried at that location. he gave a couple of names that were tied in with jimmy hoffa at the time when he disappeared. that was the reason for the search. either they had to search for a body or jimmy hoffa's body. that is the reason for this. >> heather: this location it's about 30 miles west of where he was last seen. you mentioned those names. they are associated with the house itself? >> i think they are. one of them -- i'm not sure if they are relatives or not. the person who made that allegation the f.b.i., i think those names were connected in some way. one of those names are probably the prime suspect of disappearance of jimmy hoffa. >> heather: what are investigators looking for in these soil samples. what do they hope to find? >> anything they can find. any kind of bone, body, dna anything to prove there is a body there. does the f.b
consulate to be lightly guarded. what has changed in libya such a short time that our f.b.i. agents, most elite personnel cannot safely enter the city? meantime, republicans kept up the drum beat on the administration's response and the president's foreign policy. >> the response was slow. it was confused, it was inconsistent. they first said that it was a youtube video and spontaneous mob. we now know it was a planned terrorist attack. in this was one tragic incident, that would be a tragedy in and of itself but the problem is bigger picture of the fact that the obama foreign policy is unraveling literally before our eyes on our tv screens. >> reporter: he said he would let others decide if the president was involved in a cover-up. meantime, obama advisors responded to intel information as they received it. they say the attack was a complex in situation and wasn't clear this was a terrorist attack. >> the information was arrived at and determinations were made. that was shared with the american people. i think again the focus needs to be how do we make sure our facilities and ambassadors
, like why hasn't the fbi been able to get in there. how is it that cnn can contaminate a crime scene and take crucial evidence? the fact that an fbi agent can't be in there yet is a crime in and of itself. this administration has a lot to answer for. they want the foreign policy to be the election policy and now it's front and center. >> eric: is the administration lying? is there a coverup? >> no, i don't think they are lying at all. i think their response is less than commanding. the first information you get from a crisis overseas is imperfect, wrong or it will change or a few days. it is not a question, that there were late to rolls release on friday afternoon, an update that, yes, this was a planned attack. but the defining issue is here the security of the compound. we know that the british ambassador, the united nations office and the red cross office in benghazi had been attacked recently, prior to the attack and the murder of our wonderful ambassador there. but the equivalent what have it costs to keep one member in afghanistan half a year is the protection we gave the consu
director of national intelligence to explain why the fbi has want been able to make it in to benghazi safely. >> reporter: the fbi is worried about security in benghazi, conducting their investigation and interviews in tripoli, 400 mile away from the scene of the attack. senator bob corker of the senate foreign relations committee wants to know why. he fired off a letter to james clapper, demanding answer, saying, in part, just ab days ago, the administration apparently judged it was appropriate for our consulate to be lightly guarded and it was safe for our embassador -- ambationz dorto come through the city with a small security de tail. what has changed in libya in such a short time that even fbi agents, our most elite personnel cannot safely enter the city? the consulate didn't have the standard marine guard. there are calls for the resignation of u.n. bambass dorsusan rice who, said that it appeared to be a spontaneous uprising against an anti-muslim video. >> five days went by. we have reports that intelligence people knew within 24 hours that this was a terror attack, yet, the
